Despite attempts to hush this website up by EDS/HP and Mrs Justice Swift, we endeavour to make the whole of the UK aware of the incompetence of EDS (a HP company) including the antics of the company's management and their legal representatives.

After we "blew the whistle" on EDS abuse and data protection breaches we even offered to transfer the domain, "edsfuckups.com" over to EDS free of charge. To our amazement they refused!!

HP KILLS OFF EDS TO MAKE "HP ENTERPRISE SERVICES"

HP has announced it is to kill off the EDS brand name, a year after its £7bn acquisition of the IT services giant.

As a division of HP, the organisation will now be known as HP Enterprise Services, ending a brand that has been synonymous with outsourcing since EDS was founded in 1962.

The announcement states that the change will take place “where permitted by local country law”, and it is not yet clear how soon the change will be effective in the UK. The HP Press Office was unsure of the situation, although the former EDS UK website at www.eds.co.uk now redirects to a UK page for HP Enterprise Services detailing the company’s country credentials.

“I see this as the next chapter in a long and distinguished history of IT services,” said senior the vice president (unable to name due to legal reasons) and general manager of HP Enterprise Services.

EDS’s European general manager Bill Thomas, a former head of EDS UK, announced earlier this month that he would be leaving the company on 31 October, to be succeeded by Mike Nefkens, who is currently EDS vice president responsible for its dealings with General Motors (GM). EDS was at one time a GM subsidiary.

No doubt HP will be hoping the change of name will attempt to mask the massive failings of EDS on UK government contracts.

EDS lost out on the large identity cards programme, as well as losing its contract for NHS email following a dispute between the two parties. It has also been synonymous with some other troubled government programmes, including the delayed Ministry of Defence DII project, the National Offender Management System (C-Nomis), and the failed tax credits system.
EDS is still embroiled in £709 million suit from broadcaster BSkyB, over a troubled customer relationship management system rollout.
HP and EDS have been cutting jobs extensively since the acquisition. And executives have also left the company: most notably in May, EDS UK boss Sean Finnan moved to rival IBM Global Services.

EDS/HP lawyer Michael Farrier is under investigation by the Solicitors Regulation Authority for claiming a former EDS employee deserved to be abused on UK Government property.

Farrier is head of the Employment Group at Boyes Turner solicitors in Reading and sells himself as, "A forward thinker and lauded for his easy style and excellent litigation skills".

Farrier has been advising EDS/HP on employment law and is involved with EDS/HP not conforming to UK Data Protection Laws.

Neither Farrier nor his employers have refused to deny the allegations.

DISGRACED EDS/HP LOOKS SET TO LOSE MORE UK GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS

The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is seeking to award five contracts for application development and maintenance worth up to £275m.

The DWP groups its IT into separate “towers” comprising: desktop PC services; hosting services; application maintenance; and a fourth integration layer to link the pieces together.

Currently all the contracts are with disgraced IT provider EDS. The hosting contract has been renewed but the bidding process is underway for desktop services and now application maintenance.

The application maintenance work is being split into five lots.

"A key element of the IS/IT service architecture is the provision of an application deployment service which involves the provision of feasibility, prototyping, design, development, integration, build, test, implementation, maintenance and management of applications, provision of technical consulting, support, and continuing development and enhancement of application functionality to support evolving business requirements," says the contract notice published in the Official Journal of the European Union.

Each service provider will be expected to take advantage of the development of common services, making effective use of integration technologies, " commercial off-the-shelf" packages and existing systems.

The DWP has one of the biggest IT infrastructures in Europe and considering the monumental past errors made, it would take a brave or foolish person to entrust EDS with any UK government contracts.

HP slashes EDS/HP salaries by half

HP AXEMEN have been sharpening their tools of trade on the salaries of its new employees at recently acquired outsourcer EDS.

It appears that HP has been imposing huge salary cuts on some employees at EDS, the company founded by Ross Perot that HP bought last year.

NBC deep in the heart of Texas said that some some EDS employees have had their salaries cut by half.

One tear-stained employee told the station that he didn't know what he would do after he received an email from the axemen saying that his base salary would be cut by 20 per cent from September. This was on top of an earlier nine per cent cut last year.

Other former EDS employees reportedly said that under Hewlett Packard, they've experienced salary cuts of between 10 and 47 per cent.

£7bn EDS (HP Enterprise Services) led defence IT project running 18 months late - "badly planned"

The Ministry of Defence's (MoD's) £7.1bn Defence Information Infrastructure (DII) project is running 18 months late due to bad planning, according to MPs.

A Public Accounts Committee report has savaged the handling of the project, saying that only 45,600 of 62,800 terminals due to be installed by July 2007 were in place by the end of September 2008, and highlighting concerns about the possible failure of hundreds of ageing legacy systems running past their retirement dates.

The system is intended to provide a range of core software including word processing, email, internet access and security in the UK, at sea and on operations. Some 150,000 computers are due to be installed at more than 200 MoD locations.

Committee chairman Edward Leigh said that the DII was "badly planned" with no proper pilot and "entirely inadequate research" involving a miscalculation of the condition of MoD buildings in which it would be installed.

"In addition, the Atlas consortium implementing the project - led by EDS, a company whose track record of delivering government IT projects has not been exemplary - underestimated the complexity of the software it had agreed to create," he said.

"For over two years, it was unable to deliver a system that could safely handle secret material."

Leigh said that extra costs keeping legacy systems going and dealing with any increase in the number of software errors must be charged back to the Atlas consortium.

Tory shadow defence secretary Dr Liam Fox said: "This report tells a story of Labour's incompetence, mismanagement and complacency. It is yet another IT disaster story for a government which has consistently shown a cavalier attitude to personal information."

The report also warns of discontent among existing users,with 40 per cent dissatisfied.

A £245 million EDS-built salary system has been lambasted by a parliamentary committee after it malfunctioned and shortchanged thousands of soldiers, sailors and airmen, including those serving in Afghanistan.

The "catastrophic" payroll system at the Ministry of Defence left thousands underpaid, and overpaid thousands of others, the Commons Defence Select Committee found. Of those who were underpaid, some said they struggled to pay their living costs, and even defaulted on mortgage payments as a result.

The MoD and EDS were found to have made "truly reprehensible" mistakes in managing the rollout of the Joint Personnel Administration system, which was introduced in 2006 and intended to join the separate payrolls in place for the Army, Navy and Royal Air Force.

The JPA system had incorrect details for one in ten personnel, and underpaid some by as much as £345 every month, the report noted. "Most disgracefully, service personnel themselves have sometimes been blamed for the errors that have made their own lives a misery," said Nick Harvey, Liberal Democrat defence spokesperson.

The MoD is also struggling to reclaim nearly £30 million in overpayments.

"It is difficult to exaggerate the magnitude of the failure" of the system, said the report, which also stated that the rollout was made more difficult by the MoD cutting 300 human resources posts.

The government's management of suppliers came under fire again after EDS had paid it only £516,000 in compensation for the failures of the JPA system.

An MoD spokesperson insisted that "significant improvements" had been made to the system over the last 12 months, and apologised for the incorrect payments. EDS was not able to provide immediate comment.

EDS (HP Enterprise Services) Inland Revenue tax fiasco hit with two barrels - "families forced to rely on food parcels to get by"

Two reports from the Parliamentary Ombudsman and Citizens Advice reveal the awful impact of EDS's attempt to provide an IT system for paying poor families tax credit.

Nearly two million people were overpaid a total of £2bn. On averge families were overpaid by £1,000 - money the Revenue then tried to get back pushing them into further financial problems. Some families were forced into rely on food parcels to get by.

The Parliamentary Ombudsman investigation complained that the Inland Revenue claimed the system was working well in 2003, 2004 and again in 2005: "But the cases I have investigated lead me to the conclusion that such reassurances did not give a complete picture of what has been happening, and the devastating effects the IT problems have had on some individuals’ lives, in terms of stress, financial hardship and living with continuous uncertainty regarding their awards.

Responding to the loss of Ministry of Defence (MoD) data, union PCS warned that EDS was on the verge of chaos as it sought to cut jobs and urged the MoD to review its outsourced Defence Information Infrastructure (DII) contract with EDS.

PCS in a statement "said: "The news of the data loss comes two days after Hewlett Packard (HP) and the newly merged EDS, announced that they would cut its UK workforce by 3,378 posts over the next two years."

"That announcement led the union to warn that the delivery of public services could be affected due to the job cuts."

"The union believes that the data was being used in work related to the DII contract which the MoD awarded to EDS in March 2005."

"Service delivery targets have been consistently missed with cost overruns of over £2 billion on the contract."

"This latest data loss follows the loss of two disks a couple weeks ago at RAF Innsworth."

"It's amazing that anyone could manage to cock it up so successfully." That was the reaction from Liberal Democrat IT spokesperson Richard Allan to the spectacular desktop crash at the Department of Work and Pensions (DWP). It’s a viewpoint we wholeheartedly concur with.

After the Child Support Agency (CSA) debacle, when it emerged that the £450m system built by EDS still wasn't working properly - a year and a half after its supposed completion, the DWP crash seemed impossibly incompetent. Somewhere between 80,000 and 100,000 desktops crashed -- exact figures weren't forthcoming as the DWP doesn't actually seem to know how many computers it has -- during an upgrade from Windows 2000 to Windows XP. According to our sources, EDS was attempting a small trial upgrade of around 40 machines which somehow went awry and spread to the entire network. Bingo! -- no more desktops.

EDS (HP Enterprise Services) LOSE GOVERNMENT CONTRACTS AS CSA REPLACE ILL-FATED EDS IT

The ill-fated IT at the Child Support Agency will be replaced by new systems put in place by Tata Consultancy Services.

The Indian outsourcer will implement systems based around Oracle Siebel customer relationship management and the TCS BaNCS banking software, for the Child Maintenance and Enforcement Commission which replaces the CSA. Other systems from Experian, Genysys, IBM and Oracle will also be used.

The value has not been disclosed but it is part of a £320 million operational improvement plan . The CMEC commission’s IT is intended to be fully running by 2011.

Systems at the CSA have experienced a string of IT failures. Its original £456 million IT system, set up by EDS, had 500 faults three years after it went live.

EDS also lost out this week on major government contracts to deliver the controversial ID cards programme.

IT supplier EDS' role in the "unacceptable" £456m Child Support Agency (CSA) IT fiasco was under further scrutiny following the resignation of CSA chief Doug Smith.

Smith quit following further criticism over problems with the delayed and over-budget £456m computer system implemented by EDS and the backlog of unpaid support payments to single parents.
Reports quoted a leaked internal EDS memo that admits the CSA IT system was "badly designed, badly tested and badly implemented".

The rollout of the system was delayed by two years and the CSA has had to write off £1bn in claims, while some £750m in child support payments from absent parents remains uncollected.

The system was branded an "appalling waste of public money" by MPs, who called for it to be scrapped completely.

PRISON OFFICERS THREATENED STRIKE ACTION OVER EDS DATA LOSS

EDS's loss of an estimated 5,000 prison officer and admin staff sparked a strike threat by prison workers.

As with last year's infamous child benefit data loss, the government department involved reckons that the physical media involved was lost rather than stolen. The 500GB drive hadn't been seen since July 2007, but nobody realised this until the data was needed again early in July 2008.

The data comprised information about workers for National Offender Management Service (NOMS), including prison officers as well as support and ancillary staffers. Information on the drive included names, dates of birth and National Insurance numbers of the affected workers, as well as less sensitive data such as invoices to suppliers.

The Prison Officers Association were angry at not being informed of the potential loss of the data earlier and made threats to strike over the issue, Kablenet reports. "We are extremely concerned that not only has this data been lost, but that the Prison Service appear to have tried to conceal this serious breach in security," said POA spokesman Colin Moses.

"It is a breach that we believe could ultimately cost the taxpayer millions and millions of pounds, because, if the information lost is personal and sensitive, it may well mean staff having to move prisons, move homes and relocate their families."

NHS Scrapped £90m EDS (HP Enterprise Services) email contract - "EDS Failed in Service Delivery"

NHS IT director general Richard Granger, responsible for implementation of the £2.3bn National Programme, terminated the EDS NHS contract because of 'unacceptable delivery delays'.

'EDS' delivery of the contract had been the subject of ongoing concerns including unacceptable delivery delays, issues in the functionality of the services and service capacity,' said a spokesman for the National Programme.

'The NHS came to the view after due and proper consideration that EDS has failed in its delivery of such a service and it was for this reason that the NHS took the decision to terminate EDS' contract in accordance with its contractual provisions,' he said.

The project was intended to provide a directory of all 1.2 million NHS employees to support a standard email address that would not change as staff moved around within the health service.

EDS, JACK STRAW, LORD TAYLOR, UK HIGH COURT CORRUPTION?

In a recent trial on July 31st 2009, brought by EDS/HP against a former EDS/HP employee and company shareholder, the Queens Chamber of the Royal Courts of Justice heard how the employee had been abused by EDS staff on UK Government property.

The court also heard how the employee (who was subsequently sacked by EDS/HP) used his human right to freedom of expression and freedom of speech to feature the abuse on a website.

Both Mr Justice Owen and Mrs Justice Swift - surprise, surprise - decided the employee did not have a human right to reveal the abuse on a website and ordered him to pay EDS/HP nearly £24,000. He was then threatened by the court with imprisonment if he names the people responsible for his treatment - or even speaks to someone about it! In what may possibly be one of the country's worst human right's abuses and miscarriages of justice in the Queens Chamber of the Royal Courts of Justice, Gordon Brown and Jack Straw have been asked to investigate.

It has since come to light that EDS made payments to Lord Taylor of Blackburn who, in turn, paid Jack Straw a sum of money.

Isn't it funny how the court ordered the employee to pay EDS £24,000 and that is just the sum of money required - The Sunday Times revealed - to help get a law changed?

So the big question is....whose pocket(s) will that £24,000 end up in when it seems human rights laws have changed and EDS abuses on Government sites have been "covered up"?

How can EDS hearings in court be anything other than a conflict of interest when Jack Straw is effectively being paid proxy via his good friend from Blackburn?

It has also come to light that Senior EDS Vice President Andy Mattes was arrested and questioned in relation to company corruption involving secret slush funds with the purpose of paying bribes to secure contracts, customers and design-wins.

MPs on the Treasury Committee said a £71.25m payment EDS was ordered to make in compensation for its delivery of a shoddy tax credits computer system had the "appearance of impropriety".

Their problem was that £26.5m of EDS' payment was contingent on the firm winning more government business. This detail had been hidden by a confidentiality clause. The National Audit Office cited it as a reason why confidentiality clauses should be banned from government contracts.

Effectively EDS was rewarded by the UK Government for gross failure.

Post office in data blunder | The Sun |News - "THE Post Office has been forced to apologise to thousands of pensioners after more than 100 card account statements were sent to the wrong customers.

The details of about 120 customers' accounts were mixed up during printing of 5,500 letters sent out last month.

Chris Keogh, an official in the Leeds office of pensions and finance directorate, wrote: '5,500 POCA customers will be receiving someone else's statements.

A Post Office spokesman said: 'An error which occurred during a print run by EDS of 5,500 Post Office card account statements resulted in a very small proportion of these account holders - we believe around 120 - receiving some incorrect information."

These changes came soon after a review concluded that the personal details of 256 National Offender Management Service staff stored on a hard drive were lost by EDS. According to The Sun, EDS appears to have lost Yet Another Unencrypted Hard Disk With Over a Million Sensitive Personal Data Records on it.

"A COMPUTER hard-drive with 1.6million pieces of personal data about the armed forces is missing, The Sun can reveal.

Up to one million people could be affected by the scandal.

The names and private details of around 100,000 serving personnel -- half the armed forces -- are believed to be on the drive.

There are also next-of-kin details, 600,000 potential services applicants and the names of their referees.

The data can be used to steal the IDs of servicemen and women on the frontline. It is the worst information security breach to hit the MoD. And it is the second largest ever for the Government since the Datagate scandal last year when the Inland Revenue lost the details of 25million people."

"Justice secretary Jack Straw has been accused of letting EDS get away with ” a slap on the wrist” after losing a hard drive containing sensitive personal data on prison staff. … In a Commons statement on the outcome of the inquiry Straw revealed that the hard drive contained bank details, addresses, National Insurance numbers and dates of birth on 256 staff, and not 5,000 as originally reported. … Liberal Democrat justice spokesman David Howarth added: “It says a lot that it is considered good news when it is revealed that hundreds of people, rather than thousands, have had their sensitive personal information lost.”
